This article is a research written under the legal framework of the World Trade Organization. It focuses on the compatibility of the Trump administration’s tariffs, quotas and waivers on imported steel and aluminium with the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade of 1994 and the Agreement on Safeguards.
In the research, the author made a general description of the measures enacted by the US on aluminium and steel and made a legal assessment of the measures in the light of the principal obligations provided in the GATT 1994 and the Agreement on Safeguards of the WTO.
