The seventh edition of the SIAC Arbitration Rules has come into force on 1st January 2025.
The SIAC Rules 2025 are the result of a long preparation process which started in 2020 with the formation of six expert committees tasked with suggesting proposals for the revision of the 1916 Rules. On the basis of their work, a draft edition was published in August 2023 for public consultation. Feedback was received from a wide range of stakeholders including the SIAC users council, arbitration practitioners, business entities, in-house counsel, government representatives and academics. The new Rules, which take into consideration many of the suggestions made during the public consultation process, were officially published on 9 December 2024.
The SIAC Rules 2025 reflect SIAC’s broad case management experience and aim to increase efficiency, transparency and lower arbitration costs whilst ensuring fairness and enhancing the enforceability of arbitration awards. The main innovations of the new Rules are presented in this article.
