The Canadian Government sponsored a Mission from
Great Britain and
Ireland from the 5th to 26th June, to study methods of timber housing construction. The tour, which covered nearly the whole of Canada, was to study growth, felling, methods of factory construction and on-site organisation in terms of efficiency and productivity.
The
party comprised members of the building industry, including well-known architects,
surveyors, builders, Local Authority officers, timber and Trade Union officials.
Among the party was Mr. Ronald Ward, Past President, a Director of the Phoenix
Assurance Co. Ltd., and of the Abbey National Building Society. Mr. Ward has
kindly made available tlie observations of those associated with the Building
Society Movement and the National House Builders Registration Council which, in
the light of the Government's Mortgage Option Scheme, are particularly relevant
just now.
