The author and an eminent panel1 addressed the CIETAC Hong Kong conference themed ‘Is Time on Our Side?’ on 26 October 2015 as part of Hong Kong Arbitration Week. They were tasked by CIETAC Hong Kong to come up with more practical observations to restore the arbitration time/cost balance in favour of the end user. The author suggested ‘Ten Commandments’ for settlement, the topic on which he was asked to focus. He has since devised the wider set of ‘commandments’ featured in this article to embrace also topics tackled by his fellow panelists.
