The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), which was created by the Convention on the Settlement of International Investment Disputes Between States and Nationals of Other States 1965 (the Washington Convention) celebrated its 40 th Anniversary in Washington DC earlier this year. At a commemorative event held on 26 April 2005, Daniel Barstow Magraw, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Center for International Environmental Law, Washington DC, gave an informative speech describing the challenges faced by ICSID since its inception and the organisation's responses to them.
