The recently introduced banker's oath in the Netherlands is a topic that is currently leading to intense debate. This article describes its development, sanctioning, planned extension as well as the banker's oath abroad. The banker's oath does not guarantee that trust will be restored in the financial sector. Why is this tool being implemented nonetheless? Since it has so far been decided to adopt the banker's oath on a broad scale, it is relevant to come up with a banker's oath that is future proof, widely accepted and an example for Europe.
