An introduction to the new German Waste Management Act which is to come into force in stages, The establishment of economic instruments to promote waste prevention; product responsibility; increased environmental liability on industry; demanding recovery standards, The heirarchy of prevention, recovery and disposal - waste which cannot be prevented must be recovered; waste which cannot be prevented or recovered must be disposed of in the most environmentally acceptable way- The reactions of industry to meet the principles enshrined in the Act to avoid compulsion by means of ordinances.
