Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) is a type of dispute
resolution that allows parties to resolve their disputes using an online
platform. The popularity of ODR has been steadily growing due to its ability to
provide dispute resolution services over the Internet, which generally
translates to resolving disputes at a lower cost and greater convenience. While
ODR has been used to handle small and voluminous claims, how effective is ODR
in larger and more complex arbitral claims, such as that in investment
arbitration? With the European Union (EU) recently launching its own ODR
platform in February 2016, and the forthcoming signing and ratification of
several EU investment treaties, this article thus hopes to provide an analysis
on the applicability of ODR in future EU investment arbitration.
