The symposium, as its title suggests, was about parallel proceedings, or to put it another way, parallel enforcement. The origin of the symposium may be traced back to a research project concerning parallel and conflicting enforcement of law, a project that I have been involved in for some years and which tend to grow constantly. The project has resulted in a number of articles, but the expected monograph is still waiting to be published. Furthermore, some years ago I found out that there is a similar project at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law in London, where research is conducted by Mads Andenäs and Renato Nazzini. Since then, there has been sporadic, but very valuable, cooperation between London and Uppsala in this area.
