Abstract. This is a slightly modified text of a paper given to the 1992 annual conference of the Society of Public Teachers of Law, Oxford. It concerns the legal education of English lawyers as European legal practitioners, particularly their education in community law, the current position revealed by empirical research into the education and training of solicitors, and likely future developments in vocational and academic stages of training, and the relationship between them.
