The digital landscape in Kenya has witnessed significant transformation in recent years. Estimates point out that Kenya has above seventeen million internet users and more than ten million social media users as of January 2023. On top of the Kenyan government’s agenda is digitalization which includes establishing a digital identity system for all Kenyans. This is aimed at streamlining administrative services as well as enhancing security measures. However, implementation of digital identity (ID) cards in Kenya has been a sticking point. This article explores the concept of digital identity cards and examines their incidental effect on constitutional rights in Kenya.
