The Swiss export control system, both concerning dual-use and economic sanctions and embargo matters, is often unknown to foreign companies which have branches or headquarter in Switzerland. It is sometimes thought that Switzerland has no export control system or, worst, that it is enough to comply with US and/or EU export control laws to also be fully compliant with Swiss export control legislation. The present article will describe the peculiarities of the Swiss export control system underlying core concepts of such field of Swiss law and practice. This is based on a study of the relevant legislation and administrative guidance as well as based on our daily life as practitioners dealing with Swiss export controls and the related compliance programs.
