Under the new European Union Customs Code (UCC), European Union (EU) Member States are moving towards simplified and fully digitalized Customs procedures aiming at a paperless customs administration. This article describes the efforts of the Italian Customs Agency in this regard, including the introduction of a Customs Single Window, ‘fast corridor procedures', and CARGO project which concerns ‘pre-clearance’ procedures at sea.
