When a buyer imports a manufactured good, the buyer/importer must be aware that the value of any engineering, development, artwork, design work, plans or sketches it has supplied to the manufacturer may have to be declared on importation as part of its transaction value and become dutiable. The purpose of this article is to explain when that is the case so that undervaluation but also overvaluation can be avoided.
