The aim of the French legislator was to modernize arbitration legislation in order to maintain France’s status as the «City» of international arbitration. The preference has been to update rather than replace the previous legislation in order to preserve its rich and abundant jurisprudence. The dualist regulation of arbitration has been maintained, providing separately for domestic and international arbitration. The reform has succeeded in recovering lost ground for France with regard to investment protection arbitration.
