Dispute boards are a very convenient alternative for dispute resolution. Despite being relatively common on an international level, they have not yet taken root in Spain. This conflict solving mechanism is usually composed of both technical and legal experts and it is very frequent in large infrastructure projects, although it has already begun to spread to several other sectors. One of the characteristics that differentiate dispute boards from other dispute resolution mechanisms is that they are often established at the very beginning of the projects, that is, before a dispute arises. It is therefore a good practice to keep this mechanism in mind when drafting, negotiating and signing dispute resolution clauses.
