Since Japan became a party to the New York Convention on June 20, 1961, there have only been a handful of cases in which the Japanese court was called upon to apply the New York Convention. This article examines the Japanese courts’ decisions in respect of Article V of the Convention and concludes that the courts have correctly applied the Convention to grant the enforcement of foreign awards.
