ABSTRACT: Ethical principles that rule human relations in general are applicable to all those who act in arbitration proceedings, i.e., the parties, the arbitrators and the arbitral institutions. Arbitral institutions are service providers subject to ethics, which involves probity in business and social responsibility. Ethics Codes published by arbitral institutions are important tools. There is a tendency for arbitral institutions to undertake a role of promoting expeditious, efficient and cost-effective proceedings.
