ABSTRACT: On May 2, 2007, the ICSID received a written notice of denunciation of the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States (the ICSID Convention) from the Republic of Bolivia. One year later, on July 6, 2009, the ICSID received another notification of denunciation from the Republic of Ecuador. Besides, some states decided to denounce some investment treaties that provide for ICSID arbitration. This article explores the legal and political signification of the denunciation of the Washington Convention stricto sensu and investment treaties and the consequences of such denunciations.
