After
four years of preparatory works, UNCITRAL has adopted its new arbitration rules
on 25 June 2010. The new Rules supersede the initial UNCITRAL Rules of 1976 as
from 15 August 2010. While being largely consistent with the spirit of the
UNCITRAL Rules of 1976, the 2010 Rules embody a number of new provisions aiming
at reinforcing the efficiency of UNCITRAL arbitration and the procedural balance
between the parties in dispute, as well as adapting UNCITRAL arbitration to the
main trends in modern international arbitration practice.
