On
1 September 2013, the new law of arbitration came into effect in Belgium. This
constitutes a complete rewriting of the sixth part of the judicial Code. This
transposes the UNCITRAL Model Law, while incorporating certain changes, some
clarification or additional improvements intended to provide further support to
arbitration, without distinction as to whether this is domestic or
international. The text of the law, which is both modern and clear, is intended
to be at the forefront of legislation encouraging favor arbitrandum.
